Pictured below are the parts included with this kit. The main fret is all the main
components of the frames that are made out of phosphorus bronze. This material is a
little stronger the brass we used in our original kit. Also shown are the ICB boxes
and end load guides which are still made of brass. Paper drill templates are supplied
for aiding in where

Here is a photo of one of our #176 Drill templates on the long end platform. These brass templates make drilling the holes for the frames much easier and more accurate then the paper templates supplied with this kit. the Paper template should be referred to as some holes are net drill on this end. |

this photo shows all the mounting pins holes drilled out and ready for the frame parts to be installed. Also notice all of the original mounting holes that were to be used for mounting the original plastic walkways and parts have been plugged with the supplied .030" styrene rod. Glue in place and trim smooth with deck. |
Bend two of the #21 End Load guides to shape and install in appropriate holes on the edge of the deck nearest to the well. Bending them to shape is relatively easy. Bend the sides in 90 degrees and then bend the top half of the front back until it lines up with the angle of the sides. |
Remove two #14 Narrow U shape supports and one #15 O support from the Main fret and install in appropriate holes. Use the photo for reference. Do not glue in place yet as some adjustments may be needed in the next step. |
Remove one of the #3 A&B Inner Frames from the main fret. The six legs all need to be bent 90 degrees at the half etch lines right where the legs meet the frame. Here three have been bent and the other three still need to be bent up 90 degrees. |
Carefully add the #3 frame to the platform. It will straddle the U supports and the O support. Work slowly to align the mounting pins on the ends of the legs with appropriate holes and work them into holes. Once all the pins are in place the ends of the legs should rest against the deck and even with the supports. CA in place and to each other. |
Here is one (of 10) of the ICB (Inter Connect Brackets) box removed from the fret and ready to form to shape. Notice the four half etch bend lines dividing the front, back and two sides. there are two mounting pins extending from the bottom of the box |
Bend the back (with sides) in 90 degrees. Maybe a couple extra degrees so the sides meet the bottom squarely The Photo-etch bend tool seen in this photo can be found here It is good for bends over a 1/4". Takes a little time to get use to using it but it does a good job of getting bends square and straight. |

Bend each side in 90 degrees forming a square box. the mounting pins bend down 90 degrees. |
Carefully raise the end of platform frame #3 so the tab on the end can be inserted into the slot on the side of the box. It only needs to be raised enough for the box mounting pins to insert into the mounting holes. CA together and in place. |
Remove two of the #12 Low wide U supports from the main fret and install on the end/center of the deck. Do not glue in place yet as adjustments may be needed during the next step. |
Remove one of the #1 Short ends cross platform frames from the main fret. The four legs will be bent 90 degrees at the etched lines where the legs meet the platform. The image to the left shows 20 of the legs already bent 90 degrees. The other two legs are still flat and need to be bent 90 degrees. |
Once formed it can be installed in place, straddling the two #12 supports. This will be a good time to add a small dab of CA to the base of the legs of the platform and supports so it stays in place during the next step. . |

This fret contains all the end unit Stanchion Uprights and Brake housing stand. Just two of these will be used on this A unit end frame build |
Remove two of the #10 Stanchion Uprights from the fret. The other parts will be used later when building the B end. |
Notice how the "Stanchions" of the part in the lower right are divided in half with a half etch line. Using your bending tool, bend each stanchion 90 degrees at the etch line (the inside of the bend). Bend all stanchions. |
Here is one of the #10 Stanchion formed and ready to install on the car. Now would probably be a good time to add gran irons to the stanchions. Easier to handle... The grab iron in this photo is a Tichy ####. Trim each leg of grab to about .040" -.050" in length, install into the holes and CA in place |
Once bent, install these stanchion uprights on the car platform corners. Carefully lift the end of the # frame so you can insert the mounting pin of the upright into the mounting hole. The flat surface of the upright will face the edge of the car. The #1 platform frame will be cradled in the upright. Repeat on the other end of the # platform frame. Adjust everything square and CA in place and together. |
Install another one of the #12 wide U supports in the center of the platform |
Add the #5 Low Mid Platform over the #12 support. The mounting pins on the legs are away from the support. The ends of the platform rest on the edges of the #1 and #3 platform legs. A dab of CA on the Supports and legs. A small dab of CA can also be added to the ends of the platform. |

Using the supplied T pin, press a drill pilot point in each "+" on the template. The marks for the grabs and stirrups are your option but one of them, the top one on the side portion, will be used during this build. After all point are marked, remove template and drill a #78 hole in each pilot point. This process will be the same on all short articulated ends should you want to do that now while you are focused on doing the drilling... |

Here you can see all the holes have been drilled for mounting the various frame parts. Also notice original holes that where supplied for mounting the plastic parts have been plugged with the supplied .030" styrene rod. |

Two end load guides have been formed and added to the appropriately drilled holes. Compare holes with previous photo for holes comparison if needed. |

Remove two of the #14 Low Narrow Support brackets from the main fret and install in appropriate holes. |

One of the frets in the kit is labeled 11630-C. These are #11 Stanchion uprights for the short articulated ends. There are eight of them, all the same and one per short end. Now would be a good time to make sure the grab irons you plan to use fit in the etched holes. Tichy 18" drop Grabs have the same spacing as the holes in these stanchions. Use a #79 drill bit if the grab doesn't easily fit in the hole. |
Remove one of these stanchion uprights from the fret as close to the fret as possible, leaving the mounting pin on the upright. At the etch bend lines, fold the long stanchion up 90 degrees. The short side leg also fold 90 degrees. As you can see in the photo, the handle of a pair of tweezers is used to form these stanchion angle iron shape. Hold one half tightly and bend the other portion up 90 degrees. |

Here is one of the #11 stanchion uprights formed and ready to add to an end platform. While not shown, now would probably be a good time to add grab irons to the stanchion. Add #11 Stanchion upright to appropriate hole on edge of car platform. The flat side of the upright should be toward the side of the car. |

Remove one of the #2 Short ends cross platform frames from the main fret. The four legs will be bent 90 degrees at the etched lines where the legs meet the platform. Remove another ICB box from their fret and form as before. Carefully raise the end of platform frame #2 so the tab on the end can be inserted into the slot on the side of the box. It only needs to be raised enough for the box mounting pins to insert into the mounting holes. CA together and in place. |

Remove one of the #12 U supports from the main fret and install in the proper holes. In this case the holes are the ones closest to the end of the platform. NO glue yet. |

Remove one of the #7 Short Mid-unit platform frames from the main fret. The four legs will be bent 90 degrees at the etched lines where the legs meet the platform. The image to the left shows 20 of the legs already bent 90 degrees. The other two legs are still flat and need to be bent 90 degrees. |

Once the legs on the #7 frame have been bent to shape, add the frame to the end platform. It will straddle the #12 support with the extended portion of the frame extending out toward the end of the cars.
