GP38-2 detailing

Here are some photos of parts being tested on a Proto2000 GP38-2 w/88 inch nose. First I have to point out a mistake. In my excitement to get some of the stanchions tested, I had a brain fart and used the wrong ones on the front. They should be a top of walkway mounted stanchion. But for now it is ok as they show some of the features of the concept of these stanchions. I have had a vision of how I wanted to do these stachions for several years. The first attempt was made a couple years ago. I failed miserably and I put the project on hold. After pondering it some more, I felt I knew what I need to do to get something worth using. And here is what I have come up with so far. One of the issues was mounting them. Sure, there should be a couple bolt heads at the bottom holding it to the side of the walkway. And one could but unless you have access to brass NBW castings, plastic would be your option. Would two small plastic pins hold up if the handrails are mishandled? Guess I can experiment. But for now my idea is to have a modeler formed brass brad (supplied with stanchion kit) inserted into two holes in the stanchion and walkway to hold each stanchion. The top of the stanchion folds over the handrail and can be glued or soldered to hold it in place. I DO NOT plan to supply any of the handrails. Current models I have test parts for are GP9, GP30, SD45 and these GP38-2s. Please look over photos. I hope to post more info as I test parts over the next few weeks

I also have a set of steps for this P2K unit. If I am not mistaken, all of the other step kits currently on the market are for the early style steps and the Athearn model. And they won't work on this model. So.... Still have a few tweaks to make but they are almost there. Kit would include cab steps also.

Please check back from time to time. I have more planned.
