CNW Covered Hoppers
Covered Hoppers have always been one of my favorite prototypes. For many years there were not that many covered hopper
models to choose from and none really matched any of the covered hoppers CNW owned. But thankfully, in recent years
there have been quite a few new covered hopper models produced by several manufacturers. And not too many duplicates
either.
When ever a new model is produced I try to purchase a few of the kits, not only to let the manufactures know there are
some of us who still want to build their models, but also so I have them when ever I finally get around to building
them. Funny, undec kits don't sell, but some of them are always sold out. Anyway, shortly after attending the 2014 St. Louis RPM
meet I got this wild idea of seeing how many of the CNW covered hoppers I could build now. With my modeling period
centered around 1978-80 (+/- a year or two) I started looking at rosters and what I had stashed away and surprisingly
I can model all but three or four models of that time period. (Yes, I have left out a few that are questionable for my time period and a model is not available.) The more I looked at some of these cars, the more variations I
found in some of them. Even found some information on a mystery car. So I have listed out the various series of cars
I can model and what I will be using. As I work on these cars I will attempt to build a web page on what I did to replicate
each model. And yes I am bouncing between several models as I start these projects. I hope you enjoy this adventure.
Patience may be needed as I tend bounce around and may ramble with my thoughts. For me, this is supposed to be a fun hobby. your input is welcome.
