Walkway Kits

We produce several sets of walkways for Thrall Double Stack Container Cars configured to match the kits produced by A-Line. All of the container car walkways feature the Morton (round) pattern. Note: our 'units' refer to each well. Five units or wells make one complete car, coupler to coupler. These sets are for walkways only.

Walkway Frame Kits

Again, the previously listed sets are walkways ONLY. To mount them on the cars, we wanted something that represented the prototypes angle iron construction which would stay durable for operation. What we've developed was several pieces of flat brass and Phos Bronze in various shapes and sizes. The modeler is required to bend these pieces, forming an excellent representation of the prototype. A few detail features are: locator boxes with 'peek' holes, mounting holes for grab irons, well end load guides and a true angle iron affect in the frames. All of the following kits are for the Thrall style cars by A-Line. Part #11630 has over 100 pieces. Kits are supplied with paper drill templates to aid in the placing of the frames. Instuctions are available online only and can be viewed in the links provided below. The following kits are FRAMES ONLY kits.

Drill Templates for adding Walkway Frame Kits

Try our brass templates, they slide right onto the ends of the units and back off when all markings are completed. Templates are packaged where no duplication of temlates will be required.

THRALL Rebuilt 40' Well Car Walkways

Walthers produces a model of the Thrall Rebuilt 40ft double stack well cars. Both the single well unit and the 5 unit car. We have replacement walkways for those two models. The walkways fit right in place of the plastic walkways supplied with the car. No major rework is needed. Just remove the plastic walkways from the model and install ours. These walkways feature the Morton (round) pattern.

THRALL 48' Wells

If you have the Thrall 48' well double stackd produced by Walthers, we'll have the walkways. The walkways fit right in place of the plastic walkways supplied with the car. the only major modification, is adding the supplied brass frames to hold the side extension walkways. These walkways feature the Morton (round) pattern.

Do you have one of the original Walthers 48ft well Thrall cars running around the layout with one or more of the corner stanchions bent out of shape or even broken off? Face it, they are there in a very vulnerable locating for getting hit. Well now you can replace them with our stainless steel replacement stanchions which include grab irons. We have redesigned our original walkway frames kit for the MaxiStack cars. Well part of it anyway. The platform frame is still the same. It was the stanchions that were simplified. Now they just bend the length of the stanchion to form the angle iron shape. And they are now made out of Phosphorus bronze.

Husky Stacks

Instead of building up frames and then adding a walkway like the way our earlier kits were done, we've saved you some time and work by putting the legs for the frames right on the stainless steel walkways.
Brass details in theses kits include:

• End Load Guides/Locator boxes
• REVISED - End Grab Uprights
• Lift Rings
• 40' Container Load Guides
• Four etched strips that can be bent to form new stirrup steps using the jig that is included.
  Each kit completes one car.

Maxi III

Norton pattern walkways and brass details are available for Athearns Maxi III car. These stainless steel walkways already have the legs attached to them like our Husky Stack kits. The brass detail kit and stainless steel walkway kit are separate kits. We felt this will give the modeler freedom to detail these cars to their satisfaction. Paper drill templates are supplied with these kits but our brass drill templates are easier to use and more accurate.

Gunderson Husky Stack / MAXI III Stanchions and Stirrups

So your Husky stacks or MAXI III cars are all built up and you don't want to redo the walkways and details. We get that. But how many of these built up models have bent/mangled/missing corner stanchions and/or stirrup steps? We have kits to replace those missing parts with Phosphorous Bronze parts. Each kit includes 4 stanchion sets (2 posts per corner make a one piece set) and 4 stirrup steps. The kits are configured in two ways. One has all the parts in the flat mode and you can bend them yourself as you add them to your model. OR, for those that don't have the tools/ability to form the parts, we have a kits with all the parts formed and ready to install on your model. Painting and some model rework will still be required to add these parts. But once added your well cars will no longer be susceptible to loosing graps/step during a "derailment".
