The kit includes a one piece walkway, brass walkway supports (two widths), coupler platforms,
drill template and instructions.

2 bay 70 ton
For the 70 ton 2 bay ACF hopper produced by Bowser, we have a replacement stainless steel walkway kit, which includes latteral platforms and a matching brake platform.
3 bay cf4650
Atlas and InterMountain both make models of the ACF 4650cf covered hoppers. And they both come with metal Apex pattern walkways. Just incase someone needs a Morton pattern walkway, we have one that will fit either manufacturers model. Kit includes walkway, brass supports, coupler platforms and a drill template.
Atlas also makes a ACF Center Flow PressureAide covered hopper model. The model comes with a Apex pattern metal walkway. But many of the
prototypes have a Gypsum diamond pattern walkway on them. We have a replacement walkway kit available for this model with the Gypsum pattern.
Replacement brass walkway supports and matching coupler crossover platforms are also supplied in the kit. Although this car doesn't match the model,
we do have series of detail photos of a PressureAide car posted here.
Maybe they will come in handy for your detailing project.
Front Range ACF cars
If you have any of the 2 or 3 bay ACF hoppers once produced by Front Range, we have a couple kits
available to fit those models. These kits include a four piece Apex walkway, brass supports and
couple platforms. The 2 bay kit can be used on the InterMountain 2980 cf car.
SALE - We have discovered that we have an abundance of the #105 3 bay kits and need to reduce those. The online
price of these kits are reduced to $6.00 each. And, if you are waiting for the #102 kits to come back (at $7.50 each)
( a limited supply available)
, you might consider using the #105
kit. With the way these kits are constructed, a modeler could easily modify the #105 parts to fit a 2 bay car.
Give it some thought.
Every once in a while we are asked about walkway kits for the McKean/Front Range 4 bay ACF car. Kits for that car were done
many years ago but were dropped from the line for several reasons. But, we have a hand full of those kits around here
in a Morton pattern. If you still have some of those cars around and would like to update them with a Morton pattern
walkway, we will sell what we have left. The original kits sold for $9.50, but these remaining kits are available for
$6.00 each while they last.
Atlas cf3510 cylindrical
For the ACF cylindrical hopper produced by Atlas, we have several replacement stainless steel walkway kits,
which includes brass replacement supports to hold the walkway in place. With these kits, you can modify the Atlas car
to have any one of the 5 phases of roofwalks.
Accurail 3 bay cf4600 ACF Covered hopper
Several replacement walkways are available for Accurails 4600 cf covered hoppers.
Kits come with a stainless steel walkway, brass walkway supports, coupler platforms and
a drill template.
Follow along as we attempt to build and super detail a couple of these cars.
Canadian Grain Car
For the Canadian Grain Car produced by InterMountian Railway, this one piece stainless steel roofwalk will fit right on the car with no special skills required. Coupler platforms are also a part of this kit.
If you have one of the ready to run cylindrical hoppers that already has a metal roofwalk but has plastic coupler
crossover platforms, we have replacement platforms for this model available. Find them on our
Brake Platforms Page
Listed below is a Morton pattern roofwalk found on some Scoular Cylindrical Hoppers and maybe others as well.
For those of you that are wanting to do a make over on the old AHM Flexi-Flow covered hopper, we have a detail kit
for that car. The kit contains a walkway and supports, new end ladders, new corner stanchions with curved grabs, new
stirrup steps, a new brake stand and a brake platform.
Here are a few prototype detail photos
of a flexi-flow car provided by Tom Stebly.
Available for MDC's PS2 2 Bay hopper and ConCors (or E&B Valley) PS2 3 Bay hopper are Apex pattern walkways. To give the modeler more freedom for other projects, side platforms are NOT attached to the main walkway. The MDC 2 Bay also has a U.S. Gypsum expanded metal walkway available like those used by the UP.
There is also a one piece walkway available that will fit on the Atlas (now Trainman) PS2 2 bay covered hopper
model. With the side latteral platfroms attached to the main running board, minimum effort is required to
upgrade your model.
2 Bay Cement
This kit consists of walkways only and utilizes the support risers already molded on the roof of the
Wm. K. Walthers car. Please note that these roofwalks fit the original version of the Walthers cement hoppers. There are
four parts to this roofwalk kit. If you have one of the newer Trinity 100 ton 2 bay Cememt Hoppers with the one piece walkway,
we have a walkway kit for that model. You will find that kit in the
Trinity car section farther down on this page.
The Athearn 54 ft PS, Walthers PS2CD and Proto2000s 4427 covered hopper walkway kits
include brass walkway supports and
coupler/brake platforms. Notice that kits 087 and 088 fit either the Wm. K Walthers low hip or Proto 2000's high side model.
If you are going to be adding more than one or two of our walkway kits to the 4427 cars, one of our
#10889 stainless drill templates will greatly aid
you in the drilling of the support holes. A paper drill template is supplied with each walkway kit, but the metal
template speeds up the process and adds accuracy.
PS2 4427 Low Side End Frames and Details
Not all PS2 4427 covered hoppers have high mounted brake wheels. Some of them have low mounted brake wheels. At least
two, Milwaukee and
second photo had the low mounted brake wheels with
end posts pointing in toward the car. These two kits are designed to detail the Wm. K Walthers low side car.
The kits can be used on the ExactRail model, but factoring in the costs of the two cars and the results of the conversion,
The WKW car is the better choice in our opinion. Our kits differ in their configuration. The
10875 kit will only detail
one car. But this kit includes a brass drill template. There are around 100 holes to drill in the car to add all the
details in this kit. This drill template will firmly hold the plastic corner posts and the end and side frames in place.
It is important to keep everything straight and square while drilling for this conversion. The
10876 kit has enough parts to build two cars but the
drill template is paper. If you are comfortable with the paper template (think about it) then this kit might be for you.
Or, start with the single car kit and then do additional cars with the two car kit. If you are doing the CNW car, you will
want to get our #10878 Roofwalk kit. And our #10889
stainless walkway drill template will also work on these cars.
Here is a
batch of photos showing preproduction test parts applied to both manufacturers models. Oh yeah, these kits include replacement end posts, Stirrup steps, Coupler crossover platforms,
Rope pull loops, brass wire for grab irons and the NBWs. I would like to point out that
there are some TLDX cars that have low mounted brake wheels. But they have end posts that point out. If I were going to
build one of those cars, I would use the ExactRail undecorated kit and use the PS2 4740 end frames available from
Tangent Scale Models. Here are some links showing a few TLDX cars. Please take note of the roofwalks. Yea, you will
want to use our #10878 Roofwalk.
Additional model and prototype information can be found on our
customer photos page There you can find a CNW model by Jeff Eggert and a 2 Bay PRR can built by Tom waag. There are also some prototype
photos of some CNW cars that show these low brake wheel cars.
Loop Style Rope Pulls
While these are listed in the 4427 details section, they could be used on any freight car needing replacement or new Loop
style rope pulls. Each kit contains enough loops to do at least four cars. Stainless steel drill templates are
While building a few of the Proto2000 4427 PS2CD kits, I saw a few details that could be etched because either they were 'not
quite there', or just cuz I could. These are parts I mainly developed for adding to my fleet of 4427 cars. But as long as I
have them, why not make them available to the other modelers. note: the 10888 walkway supports are included in
the 087 and 088 kits. They are available should they be needed for another project you are working on.
InterMountain PS2CD 4750 Cu. Ft.
Two InterMountain PS 4750 Cu. Ft. covered hopper walkway kits are available in the Morton pattern.
- #083 is an "original" type kit with a walkway like that of the one in the InterMountain kit.
- #082 is a one piece walkway that represents the walkway applied by Trinity Ind.
Kit 082 also contains new bolster side plates allowing the larger bolsters sometimes used on this prototype.
- Two other kits for this car are based on Santa Fe Prototypes.
Brass walkway supports and stainless steel coupler platforms are also part of kits.
Please note: These walkway kits will NOT fit on the Accurail PS2CD 4750 model. Our walkways are
There are several cars on the market that have plastic walkway supports which can be updated with our PS 4750 supports.
We have these available as a separate kit.
Trinity built PS2CD 4750cf covered hoppers have a larger bolster side plate than those build by Pullman Standard.
We have these available as a separate kit. They are easily added to your 4750cf car as an overlay.
Airslide Covered Hoppers
Kits for Walthers single and 2 bay Airslide hoppers have slotted walkways featuring the separate side platforms. You will also find a Morton pattern walkway listed for the 50 ft. 2 bay car.
One piece walkway kits for the MDC FMC covered hopper include brass risers and coupler platforms, just like our PS covered hopper kits.
Thrall 4750 Car
Do you have any of the Atlas Trainman Covered Hopper models you are wanting to detail? We can help with a kit that
contains a Morton pattern roofwalk, matching coupler crossover
platforms, and grab-irons for the corners of the roofwalk. The plastic
supports on the roof of the model are utilized to make this a quick - drop-on
Trinity 100 Ton Cement 2 Bay Covered Hopper
For the Walthers Gold Line Trinity 100 ton 2 bay cement covered hopper, we have a replacement Morton pattern
walkway and matching coupler crossover platforms.
Trinity PD 5000 Car
This kit is a walkway and brake platforms only kit. Thanks to the people at Walthers, the risers are molded on the car, making this a "drop on" walkway! If you enjoy adding brass risers, our #119 ACF risers are an exact fit.
Standard Cars Plastic Pellet Car
The plastic pellet car produced by Wm. K. Walthers is an easy car to replace the walkway.
A quick pop off of the plastic walkway, smooth the walkway supports and glue the new walkway in place.
The included coupler platforms mount in the same holes as the plastic platforms, so again a quick
Hopper Topper Walkway
For the Mckean Models Hopper Topper, this Gypsum pattern walkway can be glued to the plastic supports found on the
topper. This is a one piece walkway and should be an easy update to your model.
